Position Overview:
Santa’s Helpers Foundation is seeking an experienced Grant Writer to support our mission of providing relief to families in need through our Holiday Donation Program and year-round community initiatives. The Grant Writer will play a key role in securing funding from foundations, corporations, and government entities by researching grant opportunities, writing compelling proposals, and managing the grant application process.
Key Responsibilities:
Grant Research & Strategy
Identify and research grant opportunities aligned with Santa’s Helpers Foundation’s mission and funding needs.
Maintain a database of potential grants, submission deadlines, and funding cycles.
Develop and refine a comprehensive grant strategy to diversify funding sources.
Proposal Writing & Submission
Write clear, compelling, and persuasive grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and funding requests.
Ensure all proposals align with funder priorities and meet all submission requirements.
Collaborate with program staff to gather data, stories, and impact metrics to strengthen applications.
Grant Management & Reporting
Track submitted proposals and maintain records of deadlines, requirements, and follow-ups.
Prepare post-award reports detailing grant usage, outcomes, and compliance with funder guidelines.
Work with finance and program teams to ensure accurate financial and programmatic reporting.
Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with leadership and development teams to align grant applications with overall funding strategy.
Build relationships with foundation representatives, corporate sponsors, and government grant officials.
Assist in writing sponsorship requests, donor correspondence, and fundraising appeals as needed.
Requirements
Job Requirements:
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in grant writing for nonprofits (experience with social services, children’s programs, or poverty alleviation preferred).
Proven track record of securing grants from private foundations, corporations, and/or government sources.
Strong knowledge of grant application processes, budgeting, and compliance reporting.
Skills & Abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a persuasive and story-driven approach.
Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to manage multiple grant deadlines simultaneously.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and grant research platforms (Foundation Directory, Grants.gov, GrantStation, etc.).
Ability to work independently while also collaborating with staff and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with nonprofit fundraising strategies beyond grants (corporate sponsorships, individual donors, etc.).
Experience with CRM software (such as Bloomerang, Salesforce, or Neon) for tracking grants and donor management.
Knowledge of federal grant processes, including OMB Uniform Guidance and compliance requirements (preferred but not required).

Competitive hourly rate or project-based compensation, depending on experience.
Flexible remote work options with occasional in-person meetings in Concord, CA.
